It’s Time to Dewinterize!

If you already have an RV, the time has come to start thinking about spring cleaning. To get out amongst the lakes and trees pronto, there are a few tasks you’ll want to take on to have your RV camp-worthy once again.

1 - Flush Out Everything

Stagnant antifreeze is the first things to go when you lug out your RV for another season of adventures. Attaching your garden hose to the RV’s water hookup will let you surge water through all of the pipes, clearing out any gunk that has accumulated over the winter. This flush will also give you a chance to see if any leaks are present in your tubing system. Be sure to turn all taps on during the cleaning and flush the toilet several times.

2 - Run Some Tests

After months in subzero conditions, there are a few parts of your RV that will need some attention. One of these parts is your battery, which may be pretty low on juice. Remove it from your rig and charge it back up to full (a process which can take a few days for some makes.) The other part you’ll need to check up on is your water pump. To test it, you’ll need to turn it on, shut all water off inside the trailer and wait for the pump to do its magic. If your pump fails to turn off, chances are there is a leak somewhere that needs to be addressed.

3 - Spot Check Key Parts

To make sure your first camping trip of the year goes smoothly, you’re going to want to do a spot check both inside and outside of the RV. Tighten up all pipe fittings to prevent nasty propane leaks further down the road and check on tire pressure, replace air filters, and make sure you have ample propane on board to stay warm on those chilly spring nights! A good ol’ scrub of everything doesn’t hurt, either.
